A unanimous consent for Taylor Wimpey in East Herts

MPC worked with Taylor Wimpey to run a programme of political and community engagement on plans for 140 new homes on land in Sawbridgeworth, East Herts. The allocated site was the first to be subject to East Herts’ adopted masterplanning process, which requires extensive engagement with communities.

MPC co-ordinated a programme of events to meet the requirements of the masterplanning policy, which involved multiple meetings with local stakeholders as well as a walking tour of the town with key stakeholders. MPC worked to ensure meaningful engagement while being careful to manage expectations about what could be achieved through the masterplanning process. The engagement concluded with a public consultation event, at which the project team were able to demonstrate the work that had taken place with the local community. The agreed masterplan was adopted by East Herts in July 2018.

A full planning application for the site was approved unanimously by the council’s Development Management Committee in February 2019. At committee, one of the ward members for the site highlighted that the “masterplanning process was useful and collaborative”.
