Positive result at committee for 15 +2 storey development in Bristol

MPC was instructed to support Hadley Property Group on their proposals for a 15 +2 storey development on a dilapidated former petrol station site in Totterdown, Bristol. The proposals had been received negatively by near neighbours and the local residents association before an application was submitted to Bristol City Council.

Following the submission of the application MPC was instructed to undertake engagement with key strategic stakeholders and local members in order to convey amendments which had been made to the scheme since the application’s submission and to help allay any concerns which had been fostered during the application process. Using our bespoke Shelter data MPC also undertook a programme of targeted door knocking in the local area immediately around the site in order to generate support prior to the application being determined by committee. Working with Hadley Property Group MPC designed materials which sought to emphasise the public benefit which would be generated by the proposals and uncovered 26 supporters who were mobilised to write in favour of the application on the planning file.

Immediately prior to committee MPC also assisted Hadley Property Group in the delivery of some crisis comms in reaction to negative press coverage. MPC drafted a response and liaised with local media in order to ensure it was covered both online and in print, and also corresponded with key stakeholders in order to ensure that they were fully briefed on specific technical measures included as part of the application.

The scheme was approved 8-2 at committee.
