Gender Champions and our Women's Event

Last night saw Nicky Morgan MP launch MPC’s new “gender champions” campaign – an initiative to get men in the property industry engaged in campaigning for better gender balance.  At an event at the Marriott County Hall, Morgan talked about some of her experiences of sexism in politics and considered the results of MPC’s on-the-night polling which compared men and women’s attitudes to gender balance in the industry.  She also emphasied how important it is for men to support their female colleagues in addressing gender inequality in their industries.

As part of the initiative, male attendees were asked to sign up to become “gender champions” and in doing so, commit to three pledges:

  1. Commit to improving gender diversity in their own organisations

  2. Speak out about gender balance at events they are organising or attending

  3. Encourage female colleagues to give their views on how to improve gender balance

At MPC we have always strived to have a gender balanced workforce, including at senior levels, and we have held an annual women’s event for female clients and colleagues.  But we realised that to effect real change in our industry, we need male colleagues to be engaged in the issue as well. We hope that by the time of our next Women’s Event in November 2019 we will have found 100 gender champions who will be helping us to effect change.  If you want to check on our progress and see some pictures of our inaugural champions, click here!
